"A year after his debut CD, Projects (1997, Leo Records Laboratory), Portuguese flutist Carlos Bechegas released these Flute Landscapes. Although the first album was satisfactory, this solo opus shows the musician more daring, constantly pushing the limits of his art. The 28 short pieces represent as many possibilities of extended expression on the flute. Bechegas took the techniques of important avant-garde musicians like Evan Parker, Derek Bailey, Steve Lacy, and Peter Kowald and applied and developed them on his instrument. (...) The use of breathing and voicing techniques recall Roland Kirk and the key clicks evoke Robert Dick, but Bechegas' style truly is his own. (...) Recommended." (François Couture, AllMusic). 100gr
