about

At the end of the 80s some friends with activities in music, art and trading started a project to intervene in the Portuguese music scene with a wide variety of new musical, cultural and artistic proposals, being it academic or experimental.

The collective name was audEo, meaning boldness, dare and undertake. The word, taken from the Latin, served the purposes as it is confused with audio and the capital letter E gives a graphic expression to it.

We started in 1991 and at the end of the year we opened our store, a tiny space where was concentrated the best of the international new musical and cultural scenes. A faithful public would give sustenance and encouragement to this experience almost exclusive in Portugal.

To support our actions and proposals we started minimal, a folded A4 leaflet published after 1994, with the complicity of some relevant Portuguese new music thinkers such as Jorge Lima Barreto, Rui Eduardo Paes and Rui Neves. By another side we also produced famous shows on Rádio Press and radio Nova, such as Pressões Digitais, ObSessões and Discos Impedidos.

Was in 1997 that we also became publishers launching Carlos Zingaro's Release From Tension, then followed by other creative music CDs and a literary book by Vitorino Almeida Ventura. The shop closed in 2003 and Boîte à Petits... by Philippe de Sousa was in 2005 the label's brilliant last release, produced together with our British friends from Recommended Records.

Remaining attentive to all new things happening around us, promoting them in our very own voice and taking them to people around the world through our shop online we exist today as apopshop.com continuing to move for all the necessary ®evolutions. And to make a difference.
